THE
FUTURE: MAGHERAMORNE
REINVENTED
The Government has classified Magheramorne Works as having a ‘degraded’ landscape. This is technically accurate, but at the same time it can be misleading. In our view, the 120 metre (just under 400 ft) high quarry faces are dramatic; the waterside setting of much of the peninsula shoreline is extremely pleasant; and the quayside of the old works full of character. It is these features and their variety, plus the sheer scale of the site, that gives it, we believe, so much potential.
Our concept
is for:
- A place
that will rank in the Province's top tourist attractions
- A
place that will be fun to live in
- A
place of employment
- An exemplar of eco-friendly living
More specifically, our plans are for:
- Adventure sports – mountain biking and diving – in the quarry
- A harbour village on the area of the old works buildings that will be at the forefront of ‘green’ living
- A cocktail of uses on the peninsula, including ecology areas, film studios, an events area and a family cycling circuit
- A working heritage railway and railway museum, plus an industrial archaeology park
Our illustrative master plan below shows how these proposed uses are planned to be accommodated on the site.
