Magheramorne Film Fee Donated to the Oxygen Therapy Centre
18-7-08

Did you see ‘Messiah’, the BBC drama series shown on television earlier this year? If so, you might have spotted that scenes of a Gazza shopping street were actually filmed at Magheramorne - but probably not!

The old cement works and quarry is continuing to prove popular as a set for photography and filming, which is particularly appropriate considering part of the redevelopment plans for the site include film and television studios.

Lafarge has recently donated the location fee it received for allowing the filming to take place to the Oxygen Therapy Centre. The Centre, which occupies a former office building provided by Lafarge near the entrance to the site, offers intensive oxygen therapy to patients with Multiple Sclerosis, cerebral palsy, sports injuries and other ailments.

Vice chairperson of the Centre, Anne Murray (second from the left in the photo) says that the substantial sum donated by Lafarge will be used to buy equipment and help to extend services. Also in the photo, taken inside the Centre, are Lafarge Cement’s Lloyd McInally (far left), client Marie Wilson and East Antrim resident John Anderson (far right) of Cement Works Film, who in recent years has facilitated the use of the site as a film location on several occasions.
