New Minister makes early visit to Magheramorne
02-3-10

Northern Ireland Environment Minister, Edwin Poots, appointed to the post in the latter part of 2009, has been to Magheramorne to see for himself how plans are progressing for the redevelopment of our site – and was immediately impressed by the scale and characterful nature of the site and by the visionary proposals put forward.

Also on the visit was Geoff Nuttal, head of WWF Northern Ireland, with whom we are working to establish at Magheramorne one of just a handful of One Planet Living communities in the world. The Minister commented on how the development has great potential not only to benefit Northern Ireland, but to show how Northern Ireland can be at the forefront of sustainable living. The Minister’s enthusiasm could not even be dampened by the somewhat wet and windy weather that accompanied his visit!

From left to right in the photo below are Geoff Nuttal, Edwin Poots MLA and Lloyd McInally, Lafarge project manager for the Magheramorne project. They are pictured in the 75 hectare quarry which is to be the home of the World Cycling Centre and the All-Ireland Scuba Diving Centre.
